Honoring the Life and Legacy of James L. Thomasson, Executive Vice President of Sales (retired) of CII Foods

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of James L. Thomasson (Jim), Executive Vice President of Sales (retired) of Cereal Ingredients, Inc. (CII Foods) on January 31, 2025, at the age of 85. Jim was extremely instrumental in the start-up of CII Foods shortly after its inception in the early 1990’s, and he continued to be the driving force of the sales department until his retirement in 2015.  Jim’s leadership style, combined with his food/baking industry and sales expertise, was exceptional and earned him the respect of many in the industry.

Jim retired as Executive Vice President of Sales in 2015, and remained active on the Board of Directors of CII Foods until the time of his death.

CII Foods was founded in 1990 by Robert W. Hatch (1938-2025) and initially focused on extruded inclusions/particulates, but later branched into granola, panning, as well as plant-based proteins and crisp.  Jim and his sales team fostered a culture of integrity-driven innovation, delivering high-quality food ingredients while building partnerships rooted in trust. His people-first approach empowered employees and nourished communities, inspiring generations of leaders in the food industry.

Known for his dedication, kindness, and passion, Jim will be missed by many of his colleagues, family and friends. Beyond his professional achievements, he found joy in family, travel, and lifelong learning. Jim leaves behind his cherished wife of 65 years, Karen, numerous children, grandchildren, family and friends.
