Honoring the Life and Legacy of Robert Winslow Hatch, Founder and Visionary Leader of CII Foods.

January 31, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Winslow Hatch (Bob), founder of Cereal Ingredients, Inc. (CII Foods), on January 24, 2025, at the age of 86. Bob was a visionary entrepreneur whose dedication to innovation and community empowerment left an enduring mark on the food industry and beyond.
Cereal Ingredients, Inc (CII Foods) was founded in 1990 and initially focused on extruded inclusions/particulates, but later branched into granola, panning, as well as plant-based proteins and crisp. Bob fostered a culture of integrity-driven innovation, delivering high-quality food ingredients while building partnerships rooted in trust. His people-first approach empowered employees and nourished communities, inspiring generations of leaders in the food industry.
Bob’s drive to support businesses and help communities was deeply ingrained in his leadership philosophy. In 1984, he co-founded the Foundation for International Community Assistance (FINCA), a microfinance organization that has empowered over 75 million people across more than 45 countries. FINCA’s success reflected Bob’s belief that business ownership and opportunity could create lasting change—an ethos that became central to his work at CII.
Known for his optimism, kindness, and passion, Bob inspired everyone around him. Beyond his professional achievements, he found joy in nature, travel, and lifelong learning. He leaves behind his cherished wife of 62 years, Nancy P. Hatch; his children, Kristin, and Robert Jr.; his grandchild, Bridget; and many family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to FINCA International at www.finca.org to honor Bob’s commitment to eradicating poverty.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held this spring. Details will follow.
